After graduating from the fourth studio of the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1991, Chen Xi emerged in the late 1990s with a strong personal expressionist style. She was hailed by the famous art theorist Yi Ying as an important representative of the “post-new generation”. In the later period, her style is changeable, and there is a huge leap from expressive painting to conceptual representational painting. The “Be Memorized” series, which completed in 2006-2011, has became the most widely known and continuously invited exhibition series due to its extensive social, historical literature and personal aesthetics. She participated in many important exhibitions such as Passage to History-20 Years of La Biennale di Venezia and Chinese Contemporary Art, Invitational exhibition to The 55th Venice Biennale in 2013; The 2011 China Art Museum large-scale solo exhibition; The 2016 Hong Kong University Art Museum Solo Exhibition, etc. In recent years, she has personally and uniquely presented many new possibilities of today’s paintings through her exploration of diversified forms of ready-made installations, static images, sculptures, etc. She accumulated years of practical experience in painting and keen judgment on the contemporary art ecology. Her works have been exhibited frequently in domestic and overseas for many years, and have been widely praised by the academic community. Chen Xi’s works have won the 1993 “The First China Oil Painting Biennale” academic award, and the “3rd China Oil Painting Annual Exhibition” masterpiece award. She Published 6 individual albums and literature books. Since the 1990s, her works of different periods has been included in “The History of Chinese Art in the 20th Century” (Chinese, English, French), “Chinese Contemporary Art History 2000-2010″, “Chinese Contemporary Art Literature” and other important art history books.
